HOW TO PREPARE YOUR PLENARY PRESENTATION

Each day of the symposium, there are three plenary sessions, two in the morning, before and after the coffee break, covering 4+4 papers, and one in the afternoon covering 6 or 7 papers. 20 minutes are allocated for each paper in plenary session. We have tried to group the sessions so that the papers have some common theme(s).

The purpose of the plenary sessions is to: (i) present the authors and their research; (ii) introduce the paper in non-technical way; and (iii) respond to questions/comments from the floor (plenary discussion). Approximately, the three parts could be organized in 5 (i) + 10 (ii) + 5 minutes (iii).

With respect to point (ii), let us stress that we encourage authors to give the intuition, most of all; to report not only the strengths of the proposal but also its weak parts and the challenges it poses. Perhaps also the way by which the authors got to that proposal/results. This is often interesting and useful information that an author can rarely tell. We would like to have plenary talks in much more an informal way than usual, which is a good basis for real discussion. Note that poster sessions are the means set up to convey the technicalities and details of the papers.

Plenary sessions are held in room number 300 of the University. To reach it, enter the University from the front entrance in Buffi street #13 (old name: Ospedale street) in Lugano (see a map). Then climb the stairs to the upper floor. Room 300 is just in front of the cafeteria. Room 300 has the following facilities: overhead projector; projector for connection to your notebook; windows XP notebook (with NO floppy driver, only CD reader) connected to the projector (and to the internet) where the only accepted formats are Acrobat PDF and ms Powerpoint XP; dvd and vhs players.

In the case of notebook-based presentations, please check in advance, with respect to your plenary, if everything works properly.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR POSTER PRESENTATION

Every day of the symposium there are two poster sessions, in the late morning and afternoon. The morning posters cover the 8 papers presented in plenary session earlier in the same morning; the afternoon posters cover the 7 (or 6) papers presented in plenary session earlier in the same afternoon. Each poster session will be about a hour long.

The purpose of the poster sessions is to allow the authors to explain the details of their papers.

Poster sessions are held in room number 351 of the University. This is just a few steps from room 300 (same floor). The posters will be directly attached to the walls of room 351. Each poster will have to be 130 centimeters wide at most. This is about (slightly more than) 4 A4 sheets in landscape orientation. There is actually no limit on the height of the poster, but a reasonable height would be no more than 150 centimeters.

Requested times to put up and remove your poster are as follows.
