ISIPTA 2021 will ge held in Abades Nevada Palace Hotel. About Granada

The city

Granada is the capital city of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalucia, Spain. Granada is located at the foot of Sierra Nevada mountains, with an average elevation of 738 meters above sea level. The 2005 national census estimates a population aroung 470,000. With more than a thousand years of recorded history, Granada enjoys one of Spain's most important cultural and architectural patrimonies. The city was founded by the Romans under the name of Illibris. Later, after the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula by the Muslims in the 8th century, the city received its current name. The Catholic Monarchs conquered the city in 1492 finishing the Reconquista or Christian Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula. During the siege of the city, Queen Isabella received Cristopher Columbus and granted him the means in order to embark on his trip to the West Indies (more details are included in History section of Wikipedia page.


Besides the Alhambra, the world renowned palaces and fortresses of the Nasrid dinasty, and the historical Moorish Albaicin quarter, both designated as World Heritage by UNESCO, Granada boasts a Renaissance cathedral dating from the 16th century and many other architectual monuments of the first magnitude: Royal Chapel, the Monastery of la Cartuja, the Monastery of San Jerónimo, etc. More info in Heritage and monuments.
