Oviedo is a city of around 220000 inhabitants in the north-west of Spain.
It is the capital of the region called Asturias. Oviedo is famous for its
pre-romanesque monuments and the Princess of
Asturias Awards. Also, a trip to Oviedo should include a visit to its cathedral, its old town and some
typical streets like Gascona.
How to get to Oviedo
By plane: The
airport of Asturias is located 40km away from Oviedo. It has
international connections with London and Paris, and summer
connections with Geneve, Munich, Lisbon and Venice. From Spain, you can fly to Oviedo from Madrid and Barcelona, among many other cities.
From the airport, you can reach Oviedo
for 8 euros or taxi (about 50 euros during the day, 70 euros at night).
By bus: the bus station is
close to the city center. The bus trip from Madrid takes about 5

By train: the train station is in the city center, not far from the bus station. The trip by train from Madrid takes around 4.5 hours, and that from Barcelona about 9 hours.

Gulpiyuri to the mountains of

Last, but not least, any visitor of Asturias should visit the
Sanctuary of Covadonga, a picturesque religious place built in the middle of the mountains.
